Stars in Newcastle and the 11th Australian Exoplanet Workshop (AEW11) will be held back-to-back at the historic Fort Scratchley, right by the ocean.
Stars in Newcastle
This meeting continues the Stars in… conference series, with topics including:
- asteroseismology
- stellar activity
- clusters and stellar populations
- stellar evolution
- supernovae
- solar physics
AEW11 – Australian Exoplanet Workshop
AEW11 will continue the Australian Exoplanet Workshop series, with topics including:
- observational surveys
- atmospheric characterisation
- orbital dynamics
- protoplanetary disks and planet formation
- host star properties
- solar system analogues
Program overview
The two conferences will once again feature a shared program day on Wednesday 19 November, focused on star–planet interactions and related crossover topics.
The conference will run across five days:
Monday 17 – Tuesday 18 November: Stars in Newcastle
Wednesday 19 November: Shared day on star–planet interactions
Thursday 20 – Friday 21 November: AEW11 – Australian Exoplanet Workshop

Logistics & Venue Info
Fort Scratchley is located in the heart of Newcastle, right by the ocean. Directions for finding Fort Scratchley can be found here. It is located just off Nobbys Road, a 10-minute walk from the Newcastle Beach tram station.
The conference itself will take place at the Function Centre indicated on the map below.

A wide range of accommodation options are available within walking distance of Fort Scratchley or easily accessible by public transport, including:

✈️ Air
If you fly into Newcastle Airport, a taxi ride to the centre of town will take approximately 30 minutes. Port Stephens Coaches also operate a bus service between the airport and centre of town.
If you fly in to Sydney Airport, you can take a 10-minute train ride to Central Station, where you can transfer to a train that will take you directly to Newcastle.
🚆 Train
A train journey from Sydney’s Central Station to Newcastle Interchange will take between 2.5–3 hours and cost approximately $10 each way. A tram operates between Newcastle Interchange and Fort Scratchley.
🚗 Car
Newcastle can be reached from Sydney by car in approximately 2 hours. Free on-site parking will be available at the conference venue, with space for 40 cars (see the Event Car Park indicated towards the bottom of the map above).

The joint conference dinner for Stars in Newcastle (SiN) and the
11th Australian Exoplanet Workshop (AEW11) will be held at

starting at 7:00 pm on Wednesday 19 November.
